The Master Guide To Tea & Hydration
The seasons keep turning, and it feels like just yesterday we were talking about the wonderful feeling of just getting into spring… and now summer is just around the corner!
Summer, while lovely and full of sunshine and outdoor activities, is also the season of being sweaty and uncomfortable if you’re out there with no air conditioner. (Mama Nature, I love you and all, but you don’t have a temperature-control setting, do you?)
I’m sure you also know the feeling where every year brings with it the sensation of, “No, THIS is the worst summer yet,” because we’ve had a whole twelve months to recover from the last heat trip.
That’s why I’ve been putting together Teamuse articles for the last few years as important resources for anyone who’s been struggling with how to stay healthy and hydrated during these sometimes-hazardous times. Especially if you’re also taking care of small children— who don’t know what an electrolyte is— or small animals—who don’t speak Human, period— you need to be on top of your hydration game more than ever.
Before you get started on the articles, first please allow me to throw the “eight glasses of eight ounces of water per day” rule out the window. It’s not necessary for every body (and I do mean every individual body, not everybody as a lump sum of human beings in general) to hydrate so extensively, because so many factors depend on your unique physiology.
That being said, the advice that I’ll give you regarding hydration— and how tea helps, of course! — should be taken with the knowledge that you’re going to apply it with the underlying method of Please, For The Love Of All Things Leafy, Drink When You’re Thirsty.
Got it?
Thank you.
How to Hydrate
Now, here we go. The main article I want to recommend to you covers the fundamentals of tea and hydration, and how you can identify the electrolytes naturally present in ground-growing, leafy matter in order to help keep the water in your system.
It might be a lot to take in all at once, so here are a few key points- make sure you’re not trying to hydrate with plain water, if you’re seriously dehydrated or the weather won’t stop making you sweat/respirate/use the bathroom/otherwise lose body water; the main electrolytes to look out for are sodium, potassium, chloride, magnesium, and calcium; some of the best teas to include in your regimen for hydration are in the rooibos family, due to their high magnesium content.
Rooibos Recommendations
Which rooibos do I recommend for their excellent hydration potential? I’m so glad you asked!
Try out my favorites!
Rooibos Earl Grey: Loaded with anti-inflammatory extras like blue cornflowers and orange citrus peel!
Green Rooibos Blueberry: As fruity and flavor-packed as a smoothie!
Strawberry Banana Split: Like an ice cream sundae in the heat!
And if you can’t decide just yet, there’s always the Rooibos Portions Sampler.
Botanicals, Spices, and Salt- that's right!
Once you’re comfortable with the rooibos infusions, it’s time to step up your game and try out other natural plant-based sources of electrolyte goodness, using this next article.
The takeaways from here come down to a few essential herbs and blends that Adagio carries in profusion amongst its many teas and selections:
- Hibiscus
- Rose hips
- Citrus
- Himalayan, French Grey, or other natural mineral salt
- Honey, Molasses, or other natural sweetener
You might already be familiar with finding these in the pantry section of Adagio, but isn’t it lucky that we now have Selefina Spices to help us out in the spice department?
As a culinary ninja myself, I’m thrilled that Adagio has been expanding its horizons on such a level. In addition to the suggestions above, Selefina carries wonderful electrolyte-supporting necessities like:
French Sea Salt: Great for adding a touch of savory flavor to a too-sweet tea or dessert option.
Butterfly Pea Flower: Anthocyanin-loaded buds that deal a hefty antioxidant punch for your immune system, on top of helping with your hydration factor.
Lemon Peels: Can you ever go wrong with this aromatic classic?
Turmeric Root: So that you can make your own invention based on Adagio’s ever-powerful.
Turmeric Bliss, which will always top my list on their wellness blends.
What are your favorite tricks, ingredients, and additions to keep yourself safely hydrated during the hot-and-sweaty season?
I’m super eager to hear your thoughts and experiences, so feel free to drop a comment or five, and let me know how you out-steep the heat!
Cheers!
